Working on validation of the template files and need a little help with this part: The validator is breaking on this, saying: "Error: end tag for element "A" which is not open; try removing the end tag or check for improper nesting of elements" - it is giving that error for each instance of . Any idea on how to fix this? This is in public_common.pl

RobbieB, your wild guess is wrong. most html validators don't validate any scripting, so you should be able to safely ignore that. what validator did you use on that? [ May 29, 2001 06:15 PM: Message edited by: matt jacob ]

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought that document.writeln was a jscript function call, which is something slightly different.
Also Allen, I'd suggest that you do your form validation on the client side for faster processing. There are several ways to go about doing this, depending on what you want to accomplish.

Thanks everyone... MJ, I am using http://validator.w3.org/ on our test forum. DB, I am validating 6.1 code, don't have a lotta choice as to server/client... This is code unchanged from here tho, if you "view source" you'll see what I mean. It's the inline javascript that checks to see if you are logged in yet, then writes that up top where it says >> Hello, AllenAyres [ log out ] It's in the public_common.pl file. Just a couple of spots left to do on the main forum summary page, then I start going deeper, but getting the main page done makes the rest much easier since the code is re-used throughout.

So, then how do you get to say it is validated code when everytime you run it through w3 it breaks on that? Link to an external .js file?

that would work just fine. or, just totally ignore all script validations that are showing.
